President Jokowi visits Japan to meet G-7 leaders

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has departed for Japan to meet with G-7 leaders, in response to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s invitation. The President is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech on stability and welfare topics at the G-7 Outreach Meeting.

 

The President departed from Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in Jakarta for Nagoya, Japan on Thursday morning. He will immediately go to Ise-Shima, where the leaders of the US, England, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan are set to hold the meeting.

“Addressing the issues of sustainable development, women empowerment and global health, Indonesia will highlight the importance of global partnership and the expansion of global health coverage,” said presidential communication team member Ari Dwipayana in Jakarta.

President Jokowi, he further said, expected Indonesia’s presence at the G-7 Outreach Meeting to contribute to tackling global issues and improving international partnerships in addressing the Sustainable Development Goals’ ( SDGs ) challenges.

In Japan, Jokowi is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with several world leaders, including French President François Hollande, Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and the Japanese prime minister. Jokowi and Abe will carry out casual diplomacy talks.

First Lady Iriana joins the President on his Japan visit, along with State Secretary Pratikno, National Development Planning Minister Sofyan Djalil and Financial Services Authority ( OJK ) chairman Muliaman Hadad.

The entourage returns to Indonesia on Friday night.

 

The South Korean Government under President Moon Jae-in`s administration is trying to strengthen South Korea`s diplomatic relations with Indonesia and other ASEAN member countries, said Choe Won-gi, Head of the Korean National Diplomatic Academy.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) held a bilateral meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on the sidelines of the International Monetary Fund (IMF)-World Bank (WB) Annual Meeting in Nusa Dua, Bali.
World Bank President Jim Yong Kim said he appreciated Indonesia`s commitment to host the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank after it was repeatedly hit by major earthquakes and tsunami.
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has outlined four priorities in handling efforts to rescue and assist victims of the magnitude-7.4 earthquake and a subsequent tsunami in Palu, Donggala, Sigi, and Parigi Moutong districts, Central Sulawesi Province.
The world did not need to seek a superhero in realizing world peace besides a global leadership of all nations and shared responsibility, according to Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla.
