President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has asked the relevant ministries and state-owned companies (BUMN) to cooperate in the establishment of millions of vocational schools and vocational training centers.

"We want the establishment en masse of vocational schools and training centers, even if it is only one thousand, two thousand, or 10 thousand of them. We need millions of them," Jokowi said when chairing a limited cabinet meeting at the presidential office here on Wednesday.

The president ordered the Ministry of Higher Education and Culture and the BUMN to cooperate in the establishment of vocational schools and vocational training centers and encourage the private sector to take part in the program.

"The private sector is also expected to take part in this program, particularly in vocational training, so that it can be set up in other regions as well," the president stated.

The head of state noted that if the program is only executed by the government, it will be impossible to establish millions of vocational schools and vocational training centers.

"If we do it alone, let alone if it is done solely by the BLK (the governments vocational training center), it will be impossible to create millions of vocational training centers," he remarked.

According to Jokowi, to achieve this goal, a policy is needed to issue a regulation that will facilitate the private sector in entering this field.

"I know some BUMNs have training centers, but they should not merely manage their own centers. Pelindo already has a few. What we need is large numbers, reaching millions, so that the private sector is encouraged to take part. We therefore need to issue a regulation in this regard," he added.
