Indonesia to host world karate competition in June

The Indonesian Karate-Do Federation (Forki) has been appointed to the World Karate Federation (WKF) Premier League on June 23-24 at the Tennis Indoor Stadium in the Bung Karno Sports Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta.

“This is a world class competition for elite karate athletes. This is the first world karate competition,” Forki Chairman Hendardji Soepandji said on Sunday as quoted by tempo.co.

Some 80 countries are expected to send their athletes to the competition.

Hendardji was talking on the sidelines of the selection process for athletes who would attend the national training center for 20 months starting April 1.

The training center would groom 90 athletes and further select 36 of them to compete in various events such as the Myanmar 2013 SEA Games, the Incheon 2014 Asian Games and the WKF Premier League.
