Vice President Boediono said Monday wants the Education and Culture Ministry’s new national educational curriculum implemented as soon as possible.

“I think that within three years, the new curriculum can be implemented in every region,” Boediono said at the opening of a national meeting on education and culture in Depok, West Java, as quoted by Antara news agency.

The vast size of the archipelago meant that the new curriculum would have to be implemented piecemeal, the Vice President said. “We have to be realistic. Some regions can start implementing the curriculum in 2013; others can only implement it in the years afterward,” Boediono said.

The new curriculum would likely consist primarily of civic education, history and religion and would include the Boy Scouts (Pramuka) as a compulsory extracurricular activity.
